The variety masterpiece
A collection of paintings inspired the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s cycle of piano pieces “Pictures at an Exhibition.” In this show of the same name, director Karl-Heinz Helmschrot takes the opposite approach and creates images from Mussorgsky’s music - the stage becomes the canvas, the artists the colours and world-class talent brings the pictures to life.
